The brand was inspired by my three and a half -year-old daughter Carolina who has been an endless source of energy and ideas," she says. Miruna Gheordunescu, entrepreneur in different sectors lives and operates her companies in Milan. She is a businesswoman with vision and elegance. In the midst of the Covid pandemic, in November 2021, together with André, her partner in business and in life-for as many as 25 years-she founded Gensami, an innovative Made in Italy fine knitwear brand that presents an innovative concept of matching garments for babies, adults, and pets.
What is the DNA of the brand?
“Gensami is a project that I have always had inside me. It is inspired by our daughter Carolina, who is three and a half years old, who has been an endless source of energy and ideas. During the lockdown, André and I worked on the product, precisely on fabrics and patterns: two years of incredible work and commitment. Gensami makes a strong statement: it defines itself as a fine knitwear brand for the extended Family. We propose knits dedicated to the people who want to express a bond of Love, affection or friendship. We do this through an innovative matchy-matchy concept of complementary garments and accessories that can be coordinated with each other but cease to be identical; it is so much more than a “mini-me”.
All our knits are distinguished by the brand stylistic signature, the Yellow Thread on the left cuff, the side of the heart, which has a symbolic meaning: a ray of sunshine, that is the role that people we Love play in our lives”.
What are the demands of nowadays mothers in terms of fashion for their little ones?
"They want comfortable garments for their babies and sustainable fibers and materials that are safe for the little ones without harming the world around them. In Gensami, we put a lot of care and attention into this."
What does Gensami mean?
"It comes from lat. Gens - communities that had common interests. Gensami is the brand that represents all those communities that have Love in common.." Gensami’s first collection is divided into three capsule collections: La Gens Collection (distinguished by its feather-light garments and innovative contrasting knit patterns), the Alpachino Collection (dedicated to babies, it has a small alpaca as its testimonial and ambassador, “an animal that loves company") and the Paradiso Collection- the FW23- pays homage to Dante's masterpiece The Divine Comedy. Stars and jacquard motifs decorate whimsical knits, recalling "L'Amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle" (“Love that moves the sun and other stars”).
